Mancala Grove

Mancala Grove

Sow stones around a glossy wooden board and outsmart the computer in classic Kalah Mancala. Play with 4 or 6 stones per pit, switch empty-pit captures on or off, face three AI levels or pass the screen to a friend, and unlock new stone sets as you win.

How to play Mancala Grove

  1. Choose Easy, Normal, Hard or 2 Players, 4 or 6 stones per pit, and Empty capture On or Off.
  2. Tap one of your pits (your row, or your column on a phone) to pick up all its stones.
  3. They are sown one by one, counter-clockwise, and one drops into your store each time you pass it. Your opponent's store is skipped.
  4. Last stone in your store: you get an Extra turn.
  5. Last stone in an empty pit of yours (Empty capture on): you capture it plus every stone in the pit opposite.
  6. When one side is empty, the other player keeps the rest. The biggest store wins.

Tips and strategy

  • Count before you tap. A pit holding exactly as many stones as its distance to your store earns an Extra turn: 1 for the pit next to the store, 2 for the next, and so on.
  • Chain Extra turns by playing the pit nearest your store first.
  • Keep one pit empty opposite a full enemy pit and aim for it. A single capture can swing the game.
  • Guard your own full pits: if the opponent can end in the empty pit opposite, they take the whole pit.
  • Stones in your pits when the game ends are yours, so hoarding late can pay off.
  • Stuck? The Hint button shows the best move found by the Hard computer.

Which rules does it use?

The common Kalah rules: sow counter-clockwise, skip the opponent's store, extra turn when you end in your store, capture when you end in an empty pit of yours, and leftover stones go to their owner.

How strong is the computer?

Easy is mostly random. Normal is greedy and grabs the biggest immediate gain. Hard searches many moves ahead, so you need a real plan.

Can two people play on one device?

Yes. Choose 2 Players and take turns tapping your own row.

Is Mancala Grove free?

Yes. It is free to play in your browser on Popyca, with nothing to download or install and no account needed.

Can I play Mancala Grove on my phone?
