Tic Tac Toe: Doodle Duel

The classic pencil-and-paper game, beautifully hand-drawn: every X and O is sketched stroke by stroke, and a highlighter swipe and confetti celebrate each win. Play classic 3x3, Five in a Row on a big 15x15 board or Ultimate with nine boards in one, against an AI from Easy to Unbeatable or a friend on one device. Earn stars to unlock chalkboard, wood and neon boards.

How to play Tic Tac Toe

Choose Classic 3x3, Five in a Row on a 15x15 board, or Ultimate with nine small boards in one.
Play the AI (Easy, Medium, then Unbeatable or Master) or choose 2 Players on one device.
Tap a square to draw your X. On tiny squares on a phone, tap once to preview and again to place.
Classic is won with three in a row across, down or diagonally. Five in a Row needs five or more in one line.
In Ultimate, three in a row wins a small board, and your square sends your rival to the matching board. Three boards in a row win the game.

Tips and strategy

In Classic, start in the centre or a corner. Against Unbeatable a draw is the best result, and it still earns a star.
Look for forks: one move that creates two lines of two at once. Your rival can only block one of them.
In Five in a Row, block every open three (three in a line with both ends free) before it turns into an open four.
In Ultimate, check where your move sends your rival, and never send them to a board they can win at once.
Easy wins give 1 star, Medium 2, Unbeatable or Master 3.

Tic Tac Toe FAQ

Can I beat the Unbeatable AI?

Not in Classic: it plays perfectly, so a draw is the best result, worth a star and a medal. The top level of Five in a Row and Ultimate, Master, can be beaten.

How do I unlock the board themes?

Win against the AI to earn stars. Chalkboard opens at 3 stars, Wood at 10 and Neon at 24; switch any time with the Themes button.

Is Tic Tac Toe free?

Yes. It is free to play in your browser on Popyca, with nothing to download or install and no account needed.

Can I play Tic Tac Toe on my phone?

Yes. It works on phones, tablets and computers. Tap Play to open it full screen; you can hold your phone upright or sideways.
