Easy Chess Game

The Easy level is a good place to learn chess or to relax with a game. The computer only looks a couple of moves ahead and sometimes overlooks a threat, so it makes the kind of mistakes a beginner can punish.

How to play Easy Chess Game

  1. Tap a piece to see its legal moves as glowing dots, then tap a dot. You can also drag the piece. White moves first.
  2. Castling, en passant and pawn promotion all work as in standard chess. Check, checkmate and stalemate end the game.
  3. Undo and Hint are unlimited on Easy. Take a move back or ask for a suggestion whenever you like.
  4. Win by checkmating the computer's king.

Tips and strategy

  • Move a centre pawn first, bring out your knights and bishops, and castle early to keep your king safe.
  • Before every move, check what the computer's last move attacks. Most games are lost to a piece left undefended.
  • Count trades: a pawn is worth 1, a knight or bishop 3, a rook 5 and a queen 9.
  • When you win here regularly, step up to Hard.

Easy Chess Game FAQ

How strong is the computer on Easy?

It searches only about two moves deep and now and then plays a quick move that ignores your reply. It is made to be beaten by newer players.

Does Easy chess have a time limit?

No. Against the computer there is no clock, so you can take as long as you like to think.
