    Opens in Classic mode, the original-style 2048. Switch to Modern for undo, extra boards and themes. Slide the tiles and merge matching numbers to build the legendary 2048 tile, then keep going for 4096 and beyond. Play the classic 4x4, a brutal 3x3, roomy 5x5 and 6x6 boards, a two-minute Time Attack or today's Daily board, with undos to save you from a bad move. Earn stars, chase your best score and unlock six colourful themes along the way.

    How to play 2048

    1. Swipe, or press the arrow keys or WASD, to slide every tile on the board in one direction.
    2. Two tiles with the same number merge into one when they collide: 2+2 makes 4, 4+4 makes 8, and so on.
    3. After every move a new 2 (sometimes a 4) appears in an empty cell.
    4. Reach the target tile before the board fills up and no moves are left. On the classic 4x4 board the target is 2048, and you can keep going after it.

    Tips and strategy

    • Pick a corner and keep your biggest tile there. Mostly use two directions (for example down and left) and avoid the move that pulls it out.
    • Build a chain along one edge with numbers that fall in order, such as 256, 128, 64, 32, so one merge can roll into the next.
    • Keep the row with your big tile full, so a sideways swipe cannot shift it out of the corner.
    • Save undos for real mistakes. Reaching milestone tiles gives you an extra undo, up to the board's limit.
    • In Time Attack the clock starts on your first move, and merging 128 or more adds bonus seconds (up to +12 for a 2048 tile).

    Which version of 2048 is this?

    By default you play Classic: the original-style 4x4 2048 with the familiar beige board and tile colours, and no undo. Switch to Modern for undo, 3x3 to 6x6 boards, a daily board, Time Attack and themes. The game remembers your choice.

    What happens after I make 2048?

    You can keep going. The game marks new goals at 4096 and beyond, and your best tile and score are recorded for each board.

    What are the different modes?

    Classic 4x4, a hard 3x3 board with a 256 target, relaxed 5x5 and 6x6 boards, a Daily board that is the same for everyone each day, and a two-minute Time Attack where stars come from your score.
